2009 NFL Week 2 Picks

First, apologies for not getting Eric Foster’s UFC 103 picks linked up. 3 for 3 and more than making up for last month’s disappointing card.

Quickly with the NFL picks. All 2 units unless noted.

Cleveland/Denver Over 37 4u

Big bet of the week as mentioned earlier. This is 38 or 38.5 everywhere I’ve looked this morning.

New Orleans Minny @ Detroit +10

New York Giants +3 @ Dallas

Managed to get this at -112 as opposed to the -120/125 that’s commonly available.

Pittsburgh @ Chicago +3

Happy to take the home underdog here.

Carolina +6.5 @ Atlanta 1u

Simmons talked me into it.

Good luck out there today.

  1. It’s Minny at Detroit this week. Was Saints vs Detroit last week. Remember, I won $20 from you. Which is exactly what is going to happen this week. I’m telling you, Minny is underrated. If the Saints are 18 points better than Detroit than Adrian Peterson and the Vikes should win in a blow out. I’d say 38-14 with Peterson and Megatron each getting a couple of touchdowns.

  2. Right…Vikings were still losing (or tied can’t remember) at half and still covered.

  3. Yeah….good thing gambling is based on certain outcomes and not other arbitrary statistics (like who is winning or tied at half)!

On a side note, my favorite two preseason futures, Minny over 9.5 wins and Atlanta over 9.5 wins, are looking pretty good. Btw, Atlanta is for real and the NFC, with the exception of the Vikings, looks weaker than everyone expected. The Falcons could make some noise this year. Have a little confidence in your team. It would have helped your bottom line the last two weeks.

  4. Yeah, for you :) Here’s the thing, Cleveland and Detroit might turn out to be the two worst teams in the league this year (which would make CLE +4 in week 1 the dumbest bet of 2009, but that’s not the point here). Legitimately good teams crush the poor ones, they don’t just scrape by. I watched part of both the Vikings games so far and they don’t look overwhelming. A look at the box scores confirms this. I mean the difference against Detroit was the Lions losing contain on the backside twice against Peterson.

I’m still not ready to change my preseason view that Minny has major questions with their head coach and turnover prone QB (pick one). Same thing with Atlanta. Gonzalez is great, but he can’t play DT or cover anyone. Other than the two games versus Tampa and Buffalo, their schedule is brutal.

    Still thinking on ATL-NE BTW.
