More Sunday Bets
First, thanks to Lou for his Winnipeg suggestion yesterday, as we took the ML (+110) at a Stamkos-less TB Lighting team. The Jets won 2-1.
Also, thanks to Ohio State choking away the BCS title game last night, Auburn opens as a 7 point underdog to Florida State for the BCS title game. I kinda like Auburn here at first glance.
Second, I’ve added some more picks for today:
ATL at GB Under 44 (it’s going to snow in Lambeau today, and Rodgers isn’t playing)
Teaser: NE -10 and IND/CIN Under 44
Teaser BAL -7 (+105) and Under 41.5 (it’s snowing in BAL today)
Thursday
We went 1-2 on college hoops yesterday with BC and Virginia both losing by a lot but having Fordham cover easily. The hockey game we didn’t play was also a winner with Philly beating Detroit 6-3. Nothing doing in a full slate of NHL today unfortunately. One hoops game tonight and it’s San Diego +6. NFL and NCAAF games are both 3 point spreads and neither is worthy of a gamble IMHO. I was close to taking Jacksonville in my picks contest but chickened out at the last moment. I need a Houston win for my Oakland – worst record bet to have any chance of being a push.
One update I neglected to provide Tuesday was a summary for the college football wins totals I placed at the start of the season. They almost to the dollar broke even. Here is the breakdown:
Auburn UNDER 7.5 and Oregon OVER 10.5 were losers due to an excellent and previously underrated head coach and a complete tank job at the end of the season respectively. Alabama OVER 11 was a push. Our two winners were Cincinnati OVER 8.5 and Kansas UNDER 4, both of whom made the cover a bit of a sweat but ultimately did what was expected at the start of the season.
Saturday
Updates sporadically as I am all over the place today but not drinking in front of one or more televisions unfortunately. Football play was a loser yesterday, but MO State won for some more Zimbabwean dollars.
College Hoops: Texas A&M – SMU OVER 128.5
College Football: I like Kentucky tonight but it’s too early to post a play. I would like the line to move back to 4 and I will pass at 3. Nothing else looks very appealing
NHL: Seemingly everyone is on a back-to-back. That will happen when the usual batch of Thursday games is pushed to Friday.
NFL tomorrow
UPDATES:
Kentucky +3.5 at home to Tennessee
Hoops side: Eastern Illinois +7
UPDATE 2: One more hoops side Harvard -10
Fake Holiday Friday
Some of us have to work today, which is fine but weird if not in a retail environment. I am thankful for two winners yesterday among many other things. Short post today like most days but here we go:
NCAAF: Eastern Michigan +17 I’m not positive, but I think Eastern Michigan’s band once dressed in Yellow or White Uniforms, proceeded to “fill” a virtual beer mug and then “spill” onto an opponent’s field for their halftime show.
Apparently this is an early game so I’m getting this up now. NHL and College hoops if I have time. NHL will probably be a pass today.
NCAAB Fake Play: Missouri St. +4.5
NCAA
Quick note, definitely like Auburn at +11. Going to keep an eye open.
NCAAF Plays
Actually have some NCAAF plays this week which I somewhat like. Very tricky, weird season. FSU has not only not fallen apart, it seems that they are getting stronger. If Kansas was playing at home this week, they would be a favorite. LSU, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia are all way down. Duke and Baylor have a good chance at playing for a conference championship. Not too, too shocking that some former heavyweights (ie Purdue, Illinois) haven’t won a conference game, somewhat mind-blowing that Northwestern, Cal, UVA and Arkansas haven’t either, though. Very hard season, for me at any rate, to get a feel for. Here is what I like today, all plays @ 16.
Nebraska +1 -107 @ Penn St
Penn St is just not that good. Giving up 21 to a horrific Purdue team, only scoring 24 on IU, needing OT to beat Illinois. As so often happens in gambling, this bet is being made more against one team than because of the other.
Kentucky +26 -111 @ Georgia
I am guessing this line is so high because it is not only a night game, but Aaron Murray’s last home game. Well F that. Kentucky is bad, but 26 points is about 3.5 too many for me. Georgia 42 Kentucky 24.
Oregon @ Arizona +18.5 -106
While I am reading articles and reports during the week I will often create a side note on my desktop entitled something like “Bets I Like.” This week, in its entirety…”Against Oregon.” Do I remember what I read, no I do not.
Indiana +34.5 -106 @ Ohio St
One time, Hoosiers.
All for now, likely more to come.
How Did I Become the College Football Guy?
Pat is stealing my mojo with the premier league plays, though to be fair I haven’t has a soccer play in months since Betfair dropped their API which allowed everyone to see what % of folks were on what side. I’m like a blind infant without that kind of info. It’s readily available for football though, so more plays!
Texas A&M @ LSU – 5
Miss St. @ Arkansas PK
Boise St. @ San Diego St. +6
There should be a hockey game later. No totals posted for college yet.
UPDATE: Hockey in early as I am out for the day:
Ottawa +125
Dallas +166
Thursday
Yesterday’s total was a winner in a contender for most boring college game of the season. Our fake play lost again and I think I’ll stop posting them at this point. No plays in hoops today. One football game in college, UAB +17.5. In NFL, I missed out yesterday and the line has now moved back to where it started to NO -7 or 7.5, so I am on the wrong side of this one.
Also nothing in hockey for those who are following there.
UPDATE: I am hedged out onto Atlanta +8
Saturday
Just waking up and there are games starting already. This must be what it feels like to live on the west coast.
College football: Probably no plays for me today. I am tempted by Louisville & Miss. St but don’t like the Bookmaker lines per usual.
EDIT: Taking Miss. St. +24 -112
College hoops: Florida Atlantic was a close loser yesterday losing by 33. One more fake play today, St. Joseph’s +4
BONUS: A real play! OSU/Marquette Under 144
NHL: Edmonton will be a play depending on where the public number ends up. 10:00 East coast time to I’ll update or not later tonight.
NFL: There will be plays tomorrow, and I’ve already got some action down on Miami+1 and Miami EVEN as that’s definitely the best play of the week.
NCAA Plays
As always, I will likely to be adding to these throughout the day. Our Indiana over pick is in dire straits. They are going to beat Illinois to finish the season, which gives them 5, but to hit 6 they are going to have to beat either Wisconsin (slim) or Ohio St (none). I know there is nothing they like better at a school like Wisconsin then to cover the spread, I know IU is missing their best running back, I know the defense couldn’t tackle a 2nd grade math assignment. Let’s call this going down with the ship.
Indiana +27 -112 @ 19
In other plays, Florida St, at some point this season has to not cover a spread. They have been demolishing it consistently. You could almost see the point in the Miami game where they hit it and everyone on the Seminole sideline who knows whats up leaned back and smiled.
Syracuse +37.5 -109 @ 17
What is more embarrassing, letting someone borrow your computer and seeing a horrific stream of porn search queries or a series of search queries headed by “akron umass preview?” As I said, likely more picks to follow.
