Thursday
2-0 on official plays yesterday with a pair of one-run wins and a mini lesson on why not to bet large favorites in baseball as Wade Miley held Tampa to three hits last night as Arizona smushed the Rays 7-0. Dodgers over was a loss and so I finished one win short of winning Bookmaker’s monthly contest. July ended 19-12 +7.61 which is excellent. For the season, we are 53-42-1 +13.65.
Already missed the batch of Thursday day games and there’s only one side and zero totals that look remotely appealing for the night session. Will update if anything turns into a play per usual.
Wednesday
One winner yesterday as Mark Buehrle was vintage in Toronto’s 5-0 win at Oakland. Unfortunately, the Baltimore over was a loser and I’ll need some good fortune to win the month as I was passed by two of the three players I was tied with. I need a win tonight and losses or ties by two leaders. My play is Yankees @ Dodgers Over 5.5.
I’m traveling again tonight and there are a lot of plays in the potential column, but nothing clear-cut and will require another look closer to gametime. I’ll post back later this evening if possible; if not, July will end 17-12 +5.61.
UPDATE: Screwed by Bookmaker again as they moved the Pittsburgh/St. Louis line as I was betting it down from U7 -120 to 6.5. That’s a pass. The Cardinals need to get sorted as they’ve hit a wall of late. I don’t think the Pirates completed a trade of any kind so they’ll be riding their shit offense the rest of the way. An Alex Rios or someone of the sort would have helped their offense immensely. Also, while it’s well out of scope of what we normally bet here, and successful baseball betting in general, Tampa should be considered for a play tonight at -180 at home to Arizona based on the lineups. I’ll likely throw a microbet on it and flag it for some backtesting in the offseason. Alas…
Cardinals (Wainwright) @ Pirates (Locke) EVEN
Mets (Mejia) @ Marlins (Alvarez) -120
No totals today because of the line move. :(
Tuesday
1-1 last night for a miniscule profit after adding the more marginal Red Sox-Rays over. I waffled between the over and taking the side on the Red Sox but went with the higher rated system play. As mentioned before I’ve gotten slightly less nitty on totals which should bring more volume but a few more losers as well.
There would definitely be a play on Miami tonight, but Bookmaker is showing a whopping 15 point difference from the Pinnacle line so that’s a pass. The close to first place Pirates are also close as they get going with game 1 of 2 in Pittsburgh, but the public is a bit too happy with the Pirates for my liking.
For totals we have one play in Oakland, Toronto (Buehrle) @ Oakland (Straily) Under 8 -120. I would have taken this in the picks contest as well, but was not given the option. Instead it’s Baltimore/Houston Over 8.5 there.
Monday
Apologies for the lack of posting yesterday. No plays from Sunday. Saturday was 1-1 with soccer a winner and baseball a loser. That’s been the theme of the last week or so. Only one baseball play today:
Milwaukee (Lohse) @ Cubs (Samardjia) Under 7 +105
UPDATE: One more on the weird start time in Boston: Tampa (Price) @ Boston (Doubront) Over 8 EVEN
Saturday
Not that anyone is reading this, but missed a winner yesterday with the Bravos at home to St. Louis. I thought about placing a play int he morning but the line had not moved nearly enough for me to consider. No totals today but one MLB play as I’m short on time again today
Pirates (Morton) @ Fish (Koehler) +123
MLS plays:
Vancouver/Philly Under 2.5 +103
Friday
Rained out in Boston last night and likely no plays today as I’ll be in an airplane sans wifi for most of the day. Any updates will be late if at all. Hopefully a full slate of MLS & baseball over the weekend.
Thursday
1-1 yesterday as Panama upset Mexico 2-1 for an over, but the White Sox lost again in depressing fashion 6-2 and were never really in the game. No soccer today and no sides either as I’m scared off of the White Sox showing as the only potential play today with Peavy and Verlander. Totals are looking much better with one play so far and the slight possibility of a couple of more:
Tampa (Hellickson) @ Boston (Lackey) U9 -110
Updates at random times with day games today.
Wednesday
2-1 yesterday with the White Sox losing while making four errors in Detroit but still squeezing the under thanks to their incompetent offense. Seattle also won late, their 8th in a row obscured by the fact that their streak started before the All-Star break. As I’ve been saying since their roster turnover, it’s a much improved offense for the Mariners helped by the fact that their automatic outs from the start of the season have been relegated to either the bench or AAA.
Three potential plays on sides today. All night games, Toronto, White Sox and KC. My totals machine tends to like teams in bunches, so Yankees-Rangers Over 9, which needed a 9th inning comeback for a push yesterday is on the list again today. Reds/Giants Under 7.5 is the other highly rated option so far.
Nothing in the three day games today, so updates in the late afternoon per usual.
UPDATE: Tigers (Sanchez) @ White Sox (Danks) +118
No totals pass muster, but I took Padres/Brewers Over 8.5 in my picks contest FWIW.
One late soccer play in the Gold Cup, Panama v. Mexico Over 2 -108
Tuesday
Some more good fortune in going 2-2 yesterday as Seattle held on to beat Cleveland 2-1 and Minnesota beat Anaheim 4-3 for under 8.5. The Angels came close to tying up the game in the late innings which would have ensured the over coming in. One play so far today as we are taking Seattle again at home to Cleveland, McAllister v. Ramirez (-113). Lean on the White Sox later hosting Detroit, we’ll see if Miguel Cabrera is playing or not there. Yankees/Rangers O9, Sox/Tiggers U8.5 look like the other options right now. The totals take a lot more work to sort out, so it’s slower going until lineups are posted. Unders can post early since we know the starters and the best available lineup. Overs need to confirm everything is in order before going ahead. It’s no fun taking an over and getting caught out with a Bobby Cox Sunday lineup.
More later per usual.
EDIT:
Yankees/Rangers Over doesn’t pass. Cabrera is OUT tonight for Detroit. Taking the following:
Detroit (Porcello) @ White Sox (Quintana) EVEN, UNDER 8.5 -105
As mentioned above, the other play tonight is Cleveland (McAllister) @ Seattle (Ramirez) -113
End of the Run
It had to end sometime and did Sunday night as Baltimore beat Texas 4-2 for a solid under. 1-1 on the day as the White Sox beat a struggling Braves side 3-1. I’m attending Mets-Bravos at New Shea later tonight (Gee-Teheran) so no late updates as I don’t wager via tablet/phone.
One play in early today is Cleveland (Jimenez) @ Seattle (Harang) -115. It doesn’t look like there will be any totals today :(
Any unlikely updates will go here in two hours or so.
One more play to add to the less than optimal totals and that’s Minnesota (Deduno) @ LA Angels (Blanton) Under 8.5 -105
That’s really it for today.
